Suzuki Violin Lessons

'Teaching music is not my main purpose.  I want to make good citizens.  If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance.

They get a beautiful heart.'

Shinichi Suzuki

Learning the Violin using the Suzuki Method not only enables young children to start learning an instrument and about music, it also offers a whole host of other learning and development opportunities.

Why use the Suzuki Method?

  • An early start - pupils can start lessons as young as 3 years old

  • The 'Mother Tongue' Approach - pupils learn the Violin as they learnt their Mother Tongue language.  First, they listen.  Then they learn the techniques to make the sounds, then they learn to play pieces.  Once they are confident with the basic 'music language', they then learn to read it.

  • An emphasis on tone.  We all know that sometimes, Violin's can sound...a bit screechy.  But Suzuki pupils are taught to focus on striving for a beautiful tone from the start so we avoid the screeches!  Dr.Suzuki said, 'Beautiful tone, beautiful heart.'

  • The Suzuki Triangle - pupil, teacher, parent.  Parents are involved in lessons and practice at home.

  • Multiple-opportunity learning.  All pupils attend a weekly individual lesson which is then supported further by regular group lessons.  Pupils learn from additional skills and refine old ones, learning from each other in a supportive and fun environment.

  • Daily listening.  The Suzuki Method uses a repertoire of pieces which are learnt by ear.

  • Daily practice with a parent.  Little and often promotes good practice habits and allows pupils to progress steadily.

  • Suzuki workshops, summer schools, National Events, International Events... the list of supporting learning opportunities is endless!

  • Trained, qualified teachers.  Qualified Suzuki teachers have received in-depth training and regularly attend further training events to keep up to date.

  • A worldwide Suzuki community!  Children all over the world learn through the Suzuki Method.  It is a universal language which they all enjoy.
