Violin and Early Childhood Education
with Ruth Furniss

Welcome to Nottingham Suzuki Group!  We are a young, thriving Suzuki Violin and Viola Studio, taught by Ruth Furniss.  Children can start Violin or Viola lessons from age 3, with parent, teacher and pupil working together to ensure a positive and productive learning environment. Every pupil attends a weekly individual lesson and regular group lessons where we endeavour to improve our skills together.  Pupils have many opportunities to play in regular concerts, attend workshops and participate in local, national and international Suzuki community events.

We are thrilled to also offer a Suzuki Early Childhood Education Programme, 'Twinkle Dots!' for children aged 0-3 years and their parent/carer.  These classes offer a structured programme of music-based activities based on the Suzuki Method Principles which aim to develop not only core musical skills, but develop the child as a whole.

Ruth is also a qualified Secondary Classroom Music teacher and able to offer tuition for GCSE or A-Level Music and Music Theory.

Please take a look around our website and feel free to contact Ruth using the form below to find out more information.

ALL ABOUT RUTH

Teaching with joyful commitment

The years I have spent as a Suzuki Violin teacher have certainly been some of the most fulfilling years of my life.  Working with children and their families is a privilege; watching relationships grow and develop while helping them learn to play and appreciate beautiful music!

Ruth studied Viola at Birmingham Conservatoire with Jonathan Barritt and then later, Historical Viola with Rachel Stott at the Royal Academy of Music.  Her love of teaching began when she was teaching for Birmingham Music Service and was introduced to the Suzuki Method by Heather Clemson who then became her teacher trainer.  Ruth has never looked back!

In addition to her own teacher studio, Ruth is often asked to teach at Suzuki workshops and is currently learning how to make and repair string instruments at Merton College in London.
